Information we record

As part of providing a professional, safe and efficient service, we record details of medicines and appliances supplied against NHS and private prescriptions, significant advice given, referrals to other health professionals and any other relevant information. This may include:

How we use your information

We process your personal data, including information about prescriptions and the other pharmacy and healthcare services we provide, for these purposes:

For NHS services, we process your personal data to perform a task in the public interest: providing healthcare and treatment. For private services, such as travel vaccinations, we process it to provide the healthcare you have asked us for. A pharmacist is responsible for the confidentiality of your information.

We hold your information for as long as advised by the NHS.

We may ask whether you would like to choose our pharmacy to receive your future electronic prescriptions. If you nominate us, you can change or cancel this at any time by speaking to a member of the pharmacy team.

Our pharmacy professionals may look at relevant records to support your care, such as your NHS Summary Care Record or local shared care records, in line with NHS rules. We may also ask whether, while you remain under our care, our pharmacists can look at relevant records. Allowing this helps make sure important medical information is available to the professionals caring for you.

When you contact us or use our digital services, we process the information you give us using secure IT systems. We use trusted technology suppliers who must meet data protection and security standards and only process data on our behalf.

How we keep your information safe

We keep your records secure on access-controlled systems and in locked storage, and only staff who need to see your information can do so. All our staff contracts include a duty to keep patient information confidential, our team is trained in data protection, and we complete the NHS Data Security and Protection Toolkit.

Your rights

You have the right to confidentiality under UK data protection law (the UK General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018) and the common law duty of confidence. We also follow the NHS Code of Practice on Confidential Information, and pharmacists’ professional standards require them to keep records about you confidential, secure and accurate.

You can choose to opt out of the NHS using your data for research and planning. You can do this:

Seeing your records

You have the right to ask for a copy of the pharmacy records we hold about you. There is usually no charge, and we will respond within one month. We will need enough information to identify you, such as your full name, address and date of birth, and we will ask for ID, such as a passport or driving licence, before releasing any information.

If you think any information we hold about you is wrong, please let us know. You may also object to us holding your information.

Questions or complaints

If you have any questions about how we use your information, please speak to us in the pharmacy, call 01243 380185, or contact our Data Protection Officer.

You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk, by phone on 0303 123 1113, or by post to Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire SK9 5AF.
